TIP OF
THE WEEK:
Handicap Parking Law Amended
On
April 10, 2008, Governor Deval Patrick signed House Bill
3499 which makes it a violation for a motor vehicle without
a proper handicap placard to park in the cross-hatched areas
next to a designated handicapped parking places. These
cross-hatched areas are meant to afford a person with a
physical disability additional space to enter and exit their
vehicles. An example is a person who uses a wheelchair.
This legislation was filed by Beverly Representative Mary
Grant at the request of Beverly’s ADA Coordinator Arthur
Daignault and Massachusetts Office of Disability
representative Kevin Feeney.
The
Beverly Police Department takes handicap violations
seriously, and it will ticket handicap parking violators on
a public way or on private property. The fine for parking
in a handicap parking space is $100.00
