Traffic Department
Important City Noise Ordinance Information
A Message from the Traffic
Sergeant
The Beverly Police Traffic
Department is made up of a Sergeant who heads the
department, one officer who works the day shift and two 4pm
to 12am shifts, doing radar and enforcing various traffic
laws throughout the city, an officer who performs meter
repairs, traffic enforcement and collections of monies from
the city's parking meters, and four civilian meter
enforcement officers.
The primary duty of the
traffic department is to reduce accidents by enforcing the
various Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Laws and City of Beverly
Ordinances. The traffic department investigates all fatal
and serious motor vehicle accidents and conducts
non-criminal motor vehicle hearings with the Salem District
Court.
The traffic department is
responsible for meter enforcement, repair and collection of
monies from these meters in the downtown areas, which
insures businesses that there is a turnover of vehicles so
customers can park and shop in the downtown.
The Beverly traffic division coordinates traffic enforcement iniatives with funding provided by The Executive Office of Public Safety and Security (EOPSS). These efforts allow for additional patrol coverage in the area of traffic enforcement at peak times throughout the year. Phases of the program include " Click it or Ticket", "Road Respect", and Over the Limit, Under Arrest".
The Beverly Police Department also currently has five certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians. In a combined effort with EOPSS this program serves as a valuable tool to the citizens of our city in the protection of our future generation.
Sincerely,
Sergeant Joseph Shairs
